About this release
Samh Almea’ad introduces Cheb Bakr’s early-2000s recordings to Habibi Funk through a two-track 7-inch. The Libyan singer combines eastern Libyan folk influences with R&B and hip-hop rhythms, reflecting the musical exchange around Jamaica Studios in Benghazi. Ahmed Ben Ali, a close collaborator, produced the B-side Rjana Lamta and helped the label reconnect with Bakr after discovering his work on old cassettes. The title song reinterprets a 2003 New York recording, while the reverse brings another balance of local melody and American rhythmic influence. The single includes a four-page booklet with liner notes and credits documenting part of Bakr’s story.
