Coastlines - Coastlines 2

Takumi Kaneko and Masanori Ikeda return as Coastlines with a second album of instrumental Balearic music. Made gradually in Tokyo during the pandemic, Coastlines 2 draws together Latin rhythms, jazz-funk, Japanese fusion and the colours of 1980s instrumental soul. Tenderly opens with a gentle Latin shuffle; interpretations of Hawkshaw and Bennett’s Mile High Swinger and Gabor Szabo’s Alicia sit alongside the duo’s own writing. Steel drums, piano and synthesisers recur across the twelve-track sequence, which ends with the beatless Asafuji. Be With’s double LP was mastered by Simon Francis and cut by Cicely Balston at Air Studios.
