About this release
Alech pairs two contrasting songs from Tunisian band Dalton on Habibi Funk’s debut release. Formed around 1968 by musicians connected with the University of Tunis, the group drew on American soul, funk and rock alongside regional musical traditions. Regular work at the Sahara Beach Resort helped finance a trip to Rome, where the band recorded the single around 1971–1972. Alech moves in 3/4 with horns and layered vocals, while Soul Brother brings English lyrics and a more relaxed modern-soul arrangement to the reverse. This 7-inch reissue includes updated artwork and a booklet telling the band’s story.
