About this release
White Ladder places David Gray’s songwriting within arrangements that combine acoustic instruments with drum machines and electronic detail. Recorded at home with Craig McClune and Iestyn Polson, the album’s intimate scale remains audible even as songs such as Babylon and Please Forgive Me open into broader melodies. This Year’s Love and Sail Away sit alongside the title track and the extended closing interpretation of Soft Cell’s Say Hello, Wave Goodbye. First released in 1998, Gray’s fourth album became his breakthrough recording. This remastered Bella Figura Music double LP presents the ten-song album without the additional material of expanded editions.
