About this release
Graze The Bell brings David Moore's work into a solo piano setting after years of composition with Bing & Ruth and collaborations with Steve Gunn and Cowboy Sadness. Some pieces began as material for the ensemble before Moore reshaped them around the piano alone. Recorded at Oktaven Audio in New York with Ben Kane and Owen Mulholland, the album explores the tone of a 1987 Hamburg Steinway Model D, allowing quiet gestures and the instrument's idiosyncrasies to shape the performances. Its cover continues that personal approach: Moore embroidered a photograph by hand while the music was being mixed.
