About this release
DJ Amir returns to the Strata Records catalogue for a second volume of The Sound Of Detroit, focusing on the label’s groove-led recordings while keeping its experimental character in view. The selection brings The Lyman Woodard Organization and The Contemporary Jazz Quintet together with The Soulmates, Ron English, Sphere, Maulawi and Kenny Cox. Charles Mingus also appears with an alternate take of Dizzy Profile. Jazz improvisation, soul and funk connect the recordings, presenting several different approaches within Detroit’s musical community. Released by BBE in collaboration with 180 Proof Records, the triple album continues Amir’s exploration of the Strata archive.
