DJ Black Low - Impumelelo

Pretoria producer Sam Austin Rabede, better known as DJ Black Low, puts vocals at the centre of his second album. Impumelelo develops his angular approach to amapiano across twelve tracks, moving between dreamlike passages and grounded rhythms as slow-building tension gives way to unexpected changes. Singers and production collaborators from his Gauteng circle bring different voices into the music without smoothing out its rhythmic character. Released as a double LP by Awesome Tapes From Africa, the album builds on his earlier work with a stronger focus on lyrics, song structure and the emotional possibilities of the style.
