About this release
The Berlin Session documents Dur Dur Band Int.’s 2019 reunion in Germany’s capital, bringing Somali funk, soul and disco into a new studio recording. The ensemble is joined by singers Xabiib Sharaabi, based in Sweden, Cabdinuur Alaale from Djibouti and London-based Fadumina Hilowle. Listeners who know these voices through archival collections such as Sweet As Broken Dates can hear them here in a contemporary group setting. Across eight tracks, the album connects musicians dispersed across countries with the musical culture of Mogadishu, continuing that story through a session made decades after its original heyday.
