About this release
Recorded in New York in early 1978, Edison Machado & Boa Nova brings the drummer’s samba innovations into an expansive sextet setting. Trumpet, tenor and baritone saxophone give the arrangements a full ensemble sound, with Mozar Terra’s piano and Ricardo dos Santos’s double bass alongside Machado’s drums. The programme combines pieces by Dom Salvador, Guilherme Vergueiro and Aloisio Aguiar with compositions from the group itself. Eleven tracks unfold across four sides, ending with the extended “Atlantico”. Far Out’s double LP presents the previously unreleased sessions in a gatefold sleeve, documenting the meeting of Brazilian rhythmic language and North American jazz.
