About this release
Eduardo Araújo and Silvinha's 1976 album brings regional rhythms into conversation with funk, rock, soul and psychedelia. Inspired by their travels to Salvador, Bahia, the pair draw on capoeira, forró and candomblé alongside the sounds of Brazil's MPB and Black Rio movements. Accordionist Dominguinhos and drummer Dirceu Medeiros feature among a cast that includes musicians from Banda Black Rio and Som Nosso. The accordion-led title track, O Tempo Que Esse Tempo Tem and the closing Opanigê show the range of that approach. Reissued by Mr Bongo, the album later reached a wider audience when Madlib sampled Opanigê for São Paulo.
