About this release
African Funk Experimentals collects ten recordings by Cameroonian singer Ekambi Brillant, concentrating on the funk-driven side of his work from the mid-1970s onwards. Much of the selection comes from his collaborations with producer and guitarist Slim Pezin, combining rhythmic guitar, brass, disco strings and prominent basslines. “Africa Africa” and “Aboki” open the first side, before “Nyambe”, “N’kondo” and “Ekila”. The reverse moves through “Soul Castle” and the boogie groove of “Massoma” to “Machine Ma Bwindea”, “Mother Africa” and “Lambo Lena”. Compiled by John Bryan, Africa Seven’s LP presents the ten-track programme in restored and mastered form.
