About this release
Surreal Estate captures Emperors New Clothes as a five-piece working across jazz, dub, post-rock and no wave. Recorded in 1996, largely at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire, the album was produced by Trevor ‘Underdog’ Jackson, with Tarang produced by the band. Luke Hannam’s bass and Leo Taylor’s drums anchor David Bateman’s guitar, Ian Girdlestone’s turntables and tapes, and Andy Knight’s brass, keyboards, percussion and electronics. Guest vocalist Sussan Deyhim adds another voice to the sessions. The eleven tracks retain their working titles and planned running order, connecting live ensemble playing with loops, samples and fractured beats. This double-vinyl edition is housed in a gatefold sleeve.
