About this release
Energize formed in Marin County, California, as working musicians pooled their resources to record original material in 1979. Producer and guitarist Archie Williams worked with guitarist and songwriter Dan Hays and lyricist and executive producer John Isabeau on the project. Piece Of Class and Star Of The Disco capture the band’s meeting of modern soul and disco, preserved as a two-track single. Rain & Shine’s official seven-inch reissue returns the self-produced recordings to circulation, connecting the songs with the musicians’ account of how the group came together at a time when studio sessions had to be funded collectively.
