About this release
Mama’s Gun is Erykah Badu’s second studio album, first released in 2000. Its songs bring soul and R&B into contact with jazz, funk, rock and reggae, with Badu’s voice and writing holding the different strands together. James Poyser, Pino Palladino, Jay Dee, Questlove, N’Dambi and Roy Hargrove are among the musicians associated with the record’s richly collaborative sound. Bag Lady and Didn’t Cha Know sit alongside the reflective Orange Moon and the extended closing piece Green Eyes, while Stephen Marley joins In Love with You. This Motown double-vinyl edition presents the fourteen-track album across four sides.
