About this release
Simon and Robin Lee bring live playing and electronic production together on Faze Action’s Distant Dreams. Strings, Rhodes, horns and percussion sit alongside synthesizers and drum-machine rhythms, drawing connections between disco, jazz-funk and Balearic music. Longstanding collaborator Zeke Manyika contributes vocals, including on Batanayi, while Robin Lee arranges the strings and horns. The brothers’ bass, guitars, cello and keyboards give the music an ensemble character without losing its focus on dancefloor rhythm. From the title track through Yam Suite to the closing Sungazer, the album balances melodic detail with warm, fluid grooves across a double-vinyl set.
