About this release
Walkman is Günther Beckers' 1982 album, created alongside an exhibition of his visual artwork in Aachen. The music develops minimalist arrangements from acoustic guitar, guitar synthesizer, a rhythm box and wordless female vocals, moving between intimate instrumental passages and more electronic textures. Beckers used the Kunstkopf, or dummy-head, recording technique, with microphones positioned to capture spatial relationships between sounds. The album's title reflects his intention that listeners experience those details through headphones, including on a portable cassette player. Music From Memory's vinyl reissue presents the original ten-track programme, from Klangschwaden through to Zeitlupentraum.
