About this release
Gi Gi brings drums and bass into sharper focus on In Lieu, written between Texas and Australia for Mood Hut. Samples are looped and reshaped until their original references blur, while the rhythms give the surrounding textures a firmer centre. Pink Dirt works through mechanical drums and chopped voices; Some Of and Arque lean into the low end without losing the music's drifting quality. Voices become more distinct on Downswept, then almost form a lead vocal on the title track before dissolving again. The result keeps Gi Gi's ambient and dub sensibility intact while drawing it towards a more physical pulse.
