About this release
Giovanni Damico's The Payback EP moves through gospel house, Afro-boogie and angular funk, keeping live instrumental detail at the centre of its production. The Southern Italian multi-instrumentalist returns to Star Creature with five cuts that connect bright, uplifting passages to heavier bass movement and a more unruly rhythmic edge. The title track opens the A-side, followed by “Riding Into The Storm” and “Loud And Clear”; “LAx5” and “Like A Boss” share the reverse. Across the record, slap-bass accents and shifting textures give each piece its own character while holding the selection together as a modern disco set.
