About this release
Green Cosmos formed in Marsberg in the late 1970s, drawing on spiritual jazz, free improvisation and Indian classical influences. Morgenmusiken moves beyond the more ballad-led character of Abendmusiken into meditative pieces developed through collective playing, with silence and space central to the group's approach. Saxophonist Michael Boxberger and pianist Benny Düring work with brothers Alfred and Ulrich Franke in the rhythm section, joined by sitar player Narayan Govande. The recordings balance composed ideas with spontaneous creation, allowing individual sounds and the relationships between the players to guide the music's changing shape.
