About this release
Head Of The Slug Club brings Gretel Hänlyn’s Slugeye and Head Of The Love Club EPs together, tracing a move from indie-folk textures towards grunge, goth-pop and heavier guitar songs. Her deep, expressive voice gives the music a consistent centre as the arrangements shift between intimate passages and forceful choruses. The influence of Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins and PJ Harvey feeds into songs that balance dark imagery with direct, candid storytelling. The earlier material sits alongside the revenge song “King Of Nothing” and the restless energy of “Drive” and “Wiggy”, presenting the two EPs as connected stages of her developing sound.
