Grupo Ebano - Grupo Ebano

Rio de Janeiro’s Grupo Ébano bring gospel vocal harmonies into a Brazilian MPB and bossa setting on their self-titled album. Originally released on CD in 1997, the record centres on songs written by group leader Gil Miranda, with melodic arrangements and Portuguese-language singing carrying its spiritual themes. The all-female vocal group’s sound draws on the harmonic richness associated with Brazilian groups such as Quarteto Em Cy, while retaining its own gospel focus. BBE Music’s double-vinyl edition presents thirteen songs, from ‘Ave No Ninho’ and ‘Sertão Mar’ through ‘Pai Da Criação’, ‘Rio Seco’ and the closing ‘Meu Lugar’.
