About this release
Yoyi brings Latin and Afro-Cuban rhythms into a mixture of psychedelic funk, disco and jazz. Originally released in 1977 on Areito, the Egrem imprint, Grupo Los Yoyi's sole album was composed, orchestrated and produced by Jorge Soler Leó. Its nine mostly instrumental tracks explore different settings: Paco La Calle leans into bubbling space-funk, while Banana combines horns, keyboards and percussion with a loose vocal arrangement. Tu No Me Puedes Conquistar lets instruments trade places across its groove, and Ruta 30 moves closer to a traditional Latin feel. Mr Bongo's reissue presents the full album as part of its Cuban Classics series.
