About this release
Guilherme Coutinho E O Grupo Stalo's self-titled album brings Brazilian MPB, tropicalia, jazz and funk into an intimate, lo-fi setting. Originally issued in 1978 by Erla–Estudio Rauland in Belém, it reflects a musical scene far from the recording centres of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Coutinho's keyboards and band arrangements sit alongside the voice of Elinho, also known as Hélio Rubens de Oliveira, giving the songs a gentle, playful character. The eight-track sequence moves from Atalaia to Tema Pro Alvarito, favouring the feel of a complete album over isolated singles. This is Mr Bongo's MRBLP263 vinyl reissue.
