About this release
Haley Heynderickx and Max García Conover's What Of Our Nature is their second collaborative record, made after a year of exchanging songs and reading Woody Guthrie's words and biographies. Recorded directly to tape in a Vermont barn over five days, it relies on guitars, voices and found percussion to carry a conversation about identity, colonialism, commercialism and social equity. The writers alternate contributions, with García Conover's “Song For Alicia” drawing on the story of Alicia Rodríguez and Heynderickx's “In Bulosan's Words” responding to the poetry of Carlos Bulosan. The performances keep a spontaneous, conversational character across the album's ten songs.
