About this release
Pianist Herbie Hancock showcases the breadth of his writing on Empyrean Isles, his fourth Blue Note album, recorded in 1964. Four original compositions bring together Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams, with the familiar Cantaloupe Island sharing space with One Finger Snap, Oliloqui Valley and The Egg. The compact programme gives this closely connected quartet room to explore contrasting ideas within a single session. This stereo Blue Note Classic Vinyl edition is all-analogue, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
