About this release
Trombonist Hiroshi Suzuki recorded Cat in Tokyo in October 1975, reuniting with musicians from Freedom Unity after several years in the United States. Saxophonist Takeru Muraoka, keyboard player Hiromasa Suzuki, bassist Kunimitsu Inaba and drummer Akira Ishikawa form the group around his trombone. Their playing moves from the sharp rhythms of Shrimp Dance and the dynamic Kuro To Shiro to the soulful Walk Tall and the title track’s deeper groove. Romance closes on a more restrained, melodic note. Across the five performances, the ensemble balances jazz interplay with the rhythmic directness of funk and fusion.
