Holy Tongue - Basilikum

Holy Tongue’s Basilikum brings Valentina Magaletti, Al Wootton and Susumu Mukai together for a set of improvisations recorded in the Swiss Alps and London. Vintage drum machines provide a starting point, with percussion and the trio’s instinctive interplay opening the music out into dub and cinematic psychedelia.

Recording, editing and playing are treated as connected parts of the process: sounds dissolve and return in altered forms, and the rhythms shift between quiet concentration and forward motion. Dali de Saint Paul appears on “Coca” and “Bloom In D Minor”. Across the LP, the emphasis stays on texture, pulse and the possibilities of three musicians responding to one another.
