About this release
Hope Handwritten is Hope Tala’s debut album, a sixteen-song exploration of growing up, love, loss, friendship and ancestry. The West London singer and songwriter brings together R&B, neo-soul and organic live textures, turning towards a more personal and searching kind of writing. ‘Growing Pains (Prologue)’ introduces that coming-of-age perspective, while songs including ‘Jumping the Gun’, ‘I Can’t Even Cry’ and ‘Survival’ follow its emotional changes. The final side moves through ‘A Story to Tell / Where I Begin’, ‘Miracle’ and ‘Shiver’ to ‘Heartbeat (the End)’, closing the album with an emphasis on hope, connection and the love found around her.
