About this release
Huw Marc Bennett reinterprets the folk music of Morgannwg, or Glamorgan, through acoustic textures, jazz and psychedelic influences. Every piece on Heol Las draws from, or develops around, archival melodies from the region, connecting traditional material with the producer’s own musical language. Bennett performs most of the instruments, joined by Angela Christofilou’s vocals and lyrics and Yusuf Ahmed’s drums on Y Fedwen, with Seth Bye contributing fiddle to several tracks. Mixed by Adam Scrimshire, the album keeps its focus on place, community and the ways inherited melodies can take new forms.
