About this release
Essam is Imarhan's fourth album, recorded with the group's established lineup while opening their Tuareg guitar sound to a different production approach. Longtime engineer Maxime Kosinetz takes the producer's role, working in Tamanrasset with multi-instrumentalist Emile Papandreou of UTO. Papandreou samples the live instruments and processes them through modular synthesis in real time, adding electronic textures to the band's blues, rock and psychedelic foundations. The vinyl programme includes extended versions of Derhan N'Oulhine, Azaman Amoutay and Adounia Tochal. This transparent petrol edition comes in a gatefold sleeve, presenting nine tracks across two sides.
