About this release
Jatun Mama's debut LP brings Kichwa ritual and celebration music into an electronic setting. Jesús Bonilla and Felix Maldonado developed the project in Ecuador's Cotacachi region, combining Andean instruments, percussion and voices with keyboards and synthesizers. Produced by Atzil Jesús Bonilla and recorded at Anta Records, Ura Uku moves through ten pieces, with Cruzloma contributing to the title track and Muyumuyari. The recordings were mixed by Dirk Leyers in Berlin, with vinyl mastering by Cem Oral. Released through Eck Echo and Kimchi Records, the album connects the duo's community-based musical practice with contemporary electronic production.
