About this release
Belvedere Point brings Jeff Sova’s electronic recordings to Athens Of The North, exploring a softer side of the Detroit techno tradition. His background in piano and guitar, alongside interests in ambient music, reggae and jazz, gives the productions a broad melodic foundation. Exposure to early techno through the University of Michigan’s WCBN radio station helped shape that direction. In his mid-1990s studio, Sova built his sound around a Roland JV-1080 and E-MU Orbit rather than the more familiar 303 and 808 combination. Those choices bring a different palette to the music, connecting electronic dance rhythms with a more reflective, keyboard-led character.
