About this release
Recorded in 1973, In The Groove captures Jiro Inagaki & His Soul Media developing the jazz-and-rock approach they had pursued since forming in 1969. Sharp horn lines meet electric piano, guitar and a rhythm section that gives the music both weight and flexibility, with funk becoming a stronger part of the ensemble's sound. The album reflects Inagaki's interest in The Crusaders and points towards the direction the group would later take on Funky Stuff. Nippon Columbia presents this ten-track reissue on 180g uncoloured virgin vinyl, pressed and printed in Japan with an obi strip.
