About this release
Jorge Ben's self-titled 1969 album connects samba rhythms with soul, funk and the orchestral colours of Brazil's late-1960s music scene. Arrangements by José Briamonte and Rogério Duprat frame Ben's guitar and voice, while Trio Mocotó supplies a rhythmic foundation. País Tropical, Take It Easy My Brother Charles and Que Pena sit alongside Criola, Domingas and Barbarella in an eleven-song sequence. The record moves between direct, percussion-led grooves and broader arranged passages, reflecting the meeting of Brazilian song with contemporary soul and psychedelic influences. This vinyl LP presents the full album programme, closing with Charles Anjo 45.
