About this release
Jorge Ben's 1969 self-titled album brings his guitar and warm vocals into close conversation with Trio Mocotó's percussion. Produced by Manoel Barenbein, it combines samba, soul and funk with orchestral arrangements by José Briamonte and Rogério Duprat. The rhythmic foundation stays loose and propulsive, leaving space for the melodies and shifting instrumental colours. Songs such as 'País Tropical', 'Take It Easy My Brother Charles' and 'Que Pena' sit alongside the psychedelic touches of 'Barbarella'. This Opiniao reissue presents the original eleven-song album, capturing a period when Ben's writing and the musicians around him were expanding the possibilities of Brazilian popular music.
