About this release
Samba Esquema Novo introduces Jorge Ben’s voice and guitar through the buoyant rhythms and bright ensemble arrangements of his 1963 debut. The original “Mas, Que Nada!” opens the record, setting out the rhythmic ease that runs through “Tim Dom Dom”, “Balança Pema” and “Chove Chuva”. Samba and bossa nova provide the foundation, with Ben’s phrasing and guitar giving the songs a character of their own. The second side moves from “Rosa, Menina Rosa” to “Por Causa De Você, Menina”, completing the twelve-track album. This DOL edition presents the original programme on 180g vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.
