About this release
JT Donaldson's 10 brings ten hardware jams to Ben Hixon's Dolfin Records, drawing on the Dallas producer's long involvement in deep house. The recordings keep their rough edges, with dusty drums, warm chords and small melodic details giving the collection a loose, lived-in character. “No. 1” opens with a gentle swagger, while “No. 3” moves into a more dreamy, late-night space. The slower movement of “No. 6” contrasts with the more hopeful keys of “No. 9”, before “No. 10” closes on a rolling groove. The simply numbered pieces let the changes in rhythm, mood and harmony carry the album across its two records.
