About this release
untitled unmastered. gathers recordings from the period around Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly, carrying its jazz, soul and funk experiments into a looser collection. Released in 2016, the tracks keep their working titles and recording dates, making the sequence feel like a view into an ongoing creative process. Lamar moves between politically charged observations, personal reflection and shifts in vocal character, with the arrangements leaving rough edges and changes of direction in place. The short fourth track contrasts with the extended seventh piece, while the final untitled 08 closes a set that expands the musical world of the preceding album.
