About this release
Keni Burke’s Risin’ To The Top returns alongside the twelve-inch mix of You’re The Best on this remastered RCA reissue. The first side places Burke’s vocal over the bassline and chords that later became familiar through extensive sampling in hip-hop and R&B. You’re The Best takes a more electronic boogie approach on the reverse, with bass synthesizer and keyboards carrying its rhythm. The pairing keeps two aspects of Burke’s early-1980s sound together: the relaxed soul of the first track and the firmer dancefloor emphasis of the second. Both recordings appear under catalogue number PR65013P.
