About this release
Recorded in France in 1974 at Jef Gilson’s Palm studio, Give The Vibes Some brings Khan Jamal’s vibraphone and marimba into a small-group setting with trumpet and drums. The four pieces balance the ringing, spacious sound of his mallet instruments with a more forceful rhythmic edge. “Pure Energy” opens the album, followed by “Clint”, “35.007 Feet Up” and the title track. Jamal’s interplay with trumpeter Clint Jackson III gives the session its distinctive contrast of bright percussion and brass. This Eating Standing Recordings vinyl reissue presents the original four-track programme, spanning free and spiritual jazz without losing its sense of melody.
