About this release
Soul Makossa marks Lafayette Afro Rock Band's move into a predominantly instrumental sound, combining their American funk background with African influences encountered while living in Paris. Produced with Pierre Jaubert and originally released in 1973, the album includes a version of Manu Dibango's title song alongside Azeta, Oglenon and the rhythm-led Hihache. The six-track sequence balances horns, keyboards and percussion with the band's tightly arranged grooves, ending with Nicky. This Strut STRUT300LPB edition restores the complete vinyl programme on black LP, remastered by The Carvery from the original tapes and presented with the original artwork.
