About this release
Recorded at Black Ark and originally released in 1978, Roast Fish Collie Weed & Corn Bread puts Lee "Scratch" Perry's own voice at the centre of his production. It was his first album made entirely from songs he sang himself, giving his playful, eccentric delivery room to shape the music as much as the studio effects. Perry moves between everyday concerns, spiritual reflections and surreal humour over the rolling rhythms of Soul Fire, Curly Locks and the title track. The result captures Black Ark as a space for both songwriting and sonic experiment.
