About this release
Mizik Filamonik: Spiritual Sound places Guadeloupe’s gwoka drums and call-and-response voices alongside flutes, electric piano and synthesizer. Luc-Hubert Séjor expands the traditional ensemble without losing the force of its rhythms or its connection to Creole identity. Instrumental pieces “Eritage” and “Pein’ E Plezi” open the record before “Son” brings the vocal exchange forward. The second side forms a three-part account of forced displacement, migration to France and return to Guadeloupe. Heavenly Sweetness’s reissue presents the six-track album on 180g black vinyl, accompanied by liner notes in Creole, French and English.
