About this release
Erotica brings Madonna’s pop songwriting into a mix of house rhythms, slower grooves and spoken or sung vocal passages. Released in 1992, it was her first album for Maverick and was produced with Shep Pettibone and André Betts. The title track and Fever set out its club-focused side, while Deeper And Deeper balances a direct chorus with dance-floor momentum. Bad Girl, Rain and In This Life give the sequence more reflective spaces, and Secret Garden closes with a looser, jazz-tinged feel. Across the record, the arrangements support songs concerned with intimacy, desire and vulnerability without settling on a single mood.
