About this release
Main Source's Peace Is Not The Word To Play examines how the word peace had become a casual sign-off in hip-hop, even when the music's message contradicted it. Large Professor's production builds a layered groove from MFSB, Milly and Silly, and Lyn Collins samples, giving the lyrics a funk-led backdrop. The album version makes its argument in one verse, while the remix adds verses and changes the sample arrangement. This Mr Bongo 7-inch reissue places the remix on the A-side and the album version on the reverse, presenting both approaches to the same song.
