About this release
Chant Amazigh collects music by Majid Soula, the Algerian-born musician and producer whose Kabyle background runs through his work. Synthesizers, drums and guitar support songs shaped by disco, funk and highlife, alongside lyrics concerned with Amazigh language, culture and identity.
Habibi Funk's selection presents nine recordings, including Algerie Maroc, Tameghra and Music Sans Frontiers. Soula's role as a singer and activist is central to the collection: the music brings dance rhythms together with the aspirations and daily experiences of his community. The album offers an introduction to a distinctive voice within the wider musical history of North Africa.
