About this release
Look On The Bright Side is trumpeter Malcolm Strachan’s third solo album, bringing soul-jazz, Latin rhythms and Afrobeat touches into warm, melodic arrangements. The Haggis Horns co-founder works with long-time collaborators Atholl Ransome, George Cooper and Sam Bell, alongside drummer Pat Illingworth and double bassist Sam Quintana. Guest percussionist Steve Forman adds rhythmic detail, while strings give selected pieces a cinematic dimension. Tanja Daese contributes vocals to Quest For Love and Let Love Lead The Way, extending the album’s soulful character. Drawing on the sound of 1970s jazz, Strachan leaves space for ensemble interplay within music shaped around an upbeat, open atmosphere.
