About this release
Mário Castro Neves & Samba S.A.'s self-titled 1967 album brings bossa nova, samba and jazz together in relaxed, carefully arranged performances. The composer and pianist is joined by vocalists Biba and Thaís Do Amaral, with Novelli on bass, giving the record a light ensemble feel. Candomblé, Nanã and Vem Balançar sit alongside Bye Bye Blackbird and Corcovado within its twelve-track sequence. The arrangements balance rhythmic movement with an easy, melodic delivery, keeping the voices and instrumental details clear. Mr Bongo's reissue uses the mono master, following the sound presentation of the original Brazilian RCA Victor pressing.
