About this release
Marumo's Modiehi brings Sotho soul, mbaqanga, disco-funk and gospel into a twelve-track album produced by West Nkosi. First released on Spades in 1982, it was recorded by musicians from the Athlone School for the Blind near Cape Town: John Mothopeng, Munich Sibiya, Simon Falatsi and Marks Mbuthuma. Their previous work in groups including Batsumi, All Rounders and The Orations feeds into the album's varied arrangements. Khomo Tsaka Deile Kae? emphasizes funk, while Toitoi introduces synthesizer textures and O Mohau turns towards gospel. Mr Bongo's vinyl reissue presents the full programme across two sides.
