About this release
South Street pairs two alternative versions from Marvin Gaye’s I Want You sessions on a twelve-inch. I Wanna Be Where You Are appears in its unedited form, extending the brief album passage into a performance lasting more than six minutes. Written by Leon Ware and Arthur ‘T-Boy’ Ross, it gives the arrangement and groove more room to develop. The reverse carries the Jam – Alternate Mix of I Want You, allowing the instrumental backing to unfold before Gaye’s vocals arrive in its final section. Both versions were included on the album’s deluxe edition and are brought together here as a two-track single.
